Here are the answers to many common Questions about the Cybertruck

What is it?

An electric pickup truck made by Tesla. It is called a Cybertruck.

How do you open it?

There are buttons on the outside. You can also use the Tesla app on your phone and the touch screen once you are inside.

The Passenger and Driver Doors

There are buttons on the roof pillars just above the door with a white LED that glows when the doors are unlocked. If you attempt to open a door while the truck is locked, you awaken the "Cyber Owl.” The doors unlock automatically when an authorized driver approaches who has the Tesla app on his or her phone.

The Tailgate

A button is just above the tailgate on the top of the left side. If you attempt to open the tailgate while the truck is locked, you awaken the "Cyber Owl.” The tailgate unlocks automatically when an authorized driver who has the Tesla app on his or her phone approaches.

The Tonneau (Bed Cover)

There are two buttons just above the tailgate button on the top of the left side. They are marked with arrows indicating the direction the cover will travel when pressed. The cover will open entirely with a short, firm press of the open button or until the button is released. The close button works the same way. If you attempt to open the tonneau while the truck is locked, you awaken the "Cyber Owl.” The tonneau unlocks automatically when an authorized driver approaches who has the Tesla app on his or her phone. The touchscreen or the Tesla app may also control the Tonneau.

The Frunk

The driver can stand still in front of the frunk and wait for three beeps to sound, and the frunk will open. There is also a button just below the frunk lid above the bumper. If you attempt to open the frunk while the truck is locked, you awaken the "Cyber Owl.” The frunk unlocks automatically when an authorized driver approaches who has the Tesla app on his or her phone. The frunk can be closed by pressing the open/close button inside the frunk. The touchscreen or the Tesla app may also control the frunk.

What is a frunk?

It's a trunk in the front of a vehicle. This is common in many BEVs(Battery Electric Vehicles) since they don't need the space for an engine. My homebuilt EV in the 1970s and the Volkswagen Bug of the era both had frunks, but we didn't know that was the name for them. We called them trunks.

Is it weird to drive with a yoke (some call it a squircle)?

For some people, it takes a little practice to get used to. I took it immediately. It's the way steering should be. This is the first totally drive-by-wire truck. That means there is no direct mechanical linkage to the wheels. The yoke, like in any modern fighter plane, tells the computer what to do, and the computer combines this with other sensors to turn the wheels (front and back) the appropriate amount for the conditions. Every other truck's steering is a compromise between agility and stability. With the CT, there are few compromises as it automatically adjusts the control sensitivity to the speed. A low speeds the front and rear wheels turn in opposite directions while at high speeds they turn in the same direction.

Is it hard to keep clean?

Yes and no. Its surface is stainless steel. If you like your truck spotless, yes, you'll be removing a lot of fingerprints, if you don't care about fingerprints, no.

Does it come in other colors?

It only "comes" in stainless steel. But there are thousands of wraps with different designs and colors.

Is there much room in the bed? Can it haul much?

Yes. It can carry 2500 pounds (the equivalent of an average African elephant) in the bed with 67 cubic feet of secure storage. Its 6-foot plus bed can hold full 4x8 sheets of plywood with the tailgate down. It can tow up to 11000 lbs. It has more room and can carry and haul more weight than any truck in its class.

Does it rust? I heard it rusts.

No, not if you mean the stainless steel body or the cast aluminum chassis. There is misleading information circulating about this. It is impossible for most of the vehicle to rust. Trucks sometimes pick up iron and rust dust if transported or spend time near a railroad. Also, all cars and trucks are constantly generating brake dust, which contains iron. People went a little crazy when they first saw some "rust dust" on this rustless vehicle. This can be washed off. Some internal parts could rust but are treated to avoid rust.

Can it drive itself?

Yes. This is an option. It costs $100 monthly as a subscription or a one-time payment of 8000 dollars. However, it also has excellent cruise control and automatic features to avoid a crash, which are standard features. "Full Self Driving" (FSD) can drive you from one location to another, both on highways and local roads, using a form of Artificial Intelligence. It requires a driver to pay attention in case the vehicle encounters a situation it doesn't know how to handle. Cars equipped with FSD drive statistically better than human drivers. They see better, pay better attention, have more skill, and have better reflexes than most humans. Someday, software updates and regulations are expected to allow it to drive itself without a human driver.

How does the rearview mirror work?

Terribly. It is useless with the tonneau cover closed. The rearview cameras (there are three) are excellent and eliminate the need for physical mirrors, but manufacturers must provide them, whether or not they are used or usable.

How big are the tires?

35 inches in diameter

How far can it go without charging?

325 miles standard. An optional range extender will stretch this to over 470 miles. An additional 136 miles of range can be gained with 15 minutes of charging at one of Tesla's Superchargers.

How long does it take to charge?

Typically, you plug it in at night, and it is ready in the morning. Charging speed depends on the charger type and the state of the battery. At home, I can charge up to 23 miles per hour. Tesla Superchargers can add 100 miles in 10 minutes or 136 miles in about 15 minutes. Batteries charge fast when they are relatively empty and slow when they are nearly full. It can take 30 minutes to an hour to get that last 5%, even at a Supercharger. Most people only charge 80% unless they take a long trip.

Is it really bullet proof?

Yes and No. Yes, it is, according to most people's understanding. Literally, it is bullet-resistant. Its stainless steel body will stop most handguns, shotguns, and rifles but will not stop high-power rounds made for penetrating armor. The armored glass will stop some bullets, a 70 mph baseball, and class 4 hail.

How fast will it go?

0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds (Dual Motor). 112 mph max.
0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds (Tri Motor). 130 mph max.

Where is the engine?

It doesn't have one. It has two or three motors that are small but powerful(for a total of 600 or 800 hp). They are located between the wheels.

Can it fly?

Well, yes, metaphorically speaking. It is really fast. It can also get airborne. While in Baja mode it can jump hills and fly through the air like on the Dukes of Hazard.

How does it change ride height? How high can it go?

Its dynamic air suspension lets it ride as smoothly as a luxury sedan or as stiff as a Baja buggy. It has a height adjustment on the touch screen. The adjustment goes from about 8 to 14 inches in regular use and can go up to 16 inches in off-road use. In camp mode, it will level itself on uneven ground. When loaded heavily in the rear, it will automatically compensate. The air is provided through air tanks pressurized by an integrated compressor.

How much did it cost?

My version, the standard dual-motor version, cost $79,990. The standard tri-motor version cost $99,990 at the time I bought mine. The Foundation Series, which is no longer available, costs $20,000 more in both versions.
